George Almore (Theo James) is a roboticist on the verge of a breakthrough. In a secret laboratory, he is developing a humanoid robot, the latest prototype of which, J3, is almost complete. Each model is an increasingly advanced replica of his wife Jules, who died in a brutal car accident. Driven by his undying love for her, George has deliberately not disclosed the true purpose of his research: to create a perfect clone of his wife…
Gavin Rothery is a graphic designer and director. He is responsible for the graphic design of films such as “Moon” (2009) with Sam Rockwell and Kavin Spacey, but also for the design of several spaceships for a video game project in participatory development since 2012, Star Citizen – a simulation of humanity in 930 years.
Archive is an anticipation film that gradually takes you into its universe, towards an unexpected outcome. With a consistent but accessible plot, the film skilfully mixes the codes of the huis-clos, the thriller and science fiction. While captivating the audience in a breathless suspense, the film questions the relationship between man and AI, when love and feelings are at stake and blind reason. The film brings together the effective ingredients that made the Black Mirror series so successful.
Gavin Rothery offers us a science fiction film that is highly topical, as it questions the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence. Initially scheduled for the South by Southwest festival (USA – music, film and interactive media festival) in March 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic will prevent its appearance in our cinemas.
